Fashion Round-Up: Aaliyah

I stay true to myself and my style, and I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original.

Today marks the 14th anniversary of Aaliyah’s death. At the time of her death, she was steadily rising to the heights of superstardom – she had just released her third album, was making tracks in the acting world with roles in Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned, and was the first artist in history to top the Billboard Top 100 on airplay alone. Her undeniable talent, controversial personal life (which included marrying R.Kelly as a teenager without her parent’s permission), and influence as a fashionista meant that all eyes were on her.

Her death in 2001 as the result of a plane crash sent ripples through her huge fanbase and the music industry, where she was very much loved and respected. Her legacy continues to grow, and she has since been given the nicknames ‘Queen of Urban Pop’ and ‘Princess of R&B’. In honour of the legend herself, here’s a look back at some of her best fashion moments.
